A modern day treasure hunt! What could be more exciting than that? For the young and old alike all across the country, there isn’t anything quite as exciting as the hunt for a cache. Geocaching has been around since the year 2000, and is growing in popularity among hikers and anyone seeking fun in the outdoors. It’s also gaining popularity among RVers, and it’s easy to see why... RVers traveling all over the United States have the opportunity to cash in on any cache they choose. What exactly is Geocaching? According to Geocaching.com, it “is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then, if you choose, you can share the experiences online.” You aren’t just limited to a GPS to track your cache, you can also use a smartphone app. Part of the appeal of geocaching is that it's a great, healthy, outdoor activity and it's incredibly affordable fun! Most Geocaching smartphone apps are $10 or less for a lifetime of treasure hunting!
You can visit the website for official rules, but basically if you take a treasure, you must replace it with something equal to or greater value, “Explosives, ammunition, knives, drugs and alcohol should not be placed in a cache. Respect local laws at all times. No food or heavily scented items in a cache. Animals have better noses than humans, and in some cases caches have been chewed through and destroyed because of food items in a cache.”
Another tip to remember is that the GPS coordinates will only put you in the general area, you’ll need to play detective to find the actual container that will be hidden from general population.
What makes this site especially great for RVers, is that you can search for a cache by state, postal code, or by country if you happen to be in another country. According to Wikipedia, “There are over 13,000 privately owned RV parks and over 1,600 state parks that cater to RVers in the USA.” which makes for great opportunities to hide and seek geocaching all over this great land of ours! If you have a geocaching story of your own, we’d love to hear about it! You can share it with us on our website or on our Facebook wall!
Happy Treasure Hunting!

Who doesn’t love a good hearty breakfast? Chances are when you wake up in the morning you're ready to get your feed on, and a bowl of cereal is not what your grumbling stomach is hollering for. How about trying breakfast sausage wedges? They’re hearty enough to quiet down the monster in your stomach, but not so heavy that you won’t feel like moving after you’re done feasting.
This recipe is featured in the RV Centennial Cookbook and was submitted by RV'er, Debbie Gleaves. Here is a list of ingredients that you will need:
1 package (12 oz.) pork sausage
1 unbaked deep-dish pastry pie shell (9 inch)
2 C. shredded cheddar cheese
3 eggs
1 C. salsa
sour cream, if desired
Instructions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Crumble sausage and brown; drain. Sprinkle sausage over bottom of pie shell. Sprinkle cheese over sausage. In small bowl, beat eggs and blend in salsa. Pour egg and salsa mixture over the cheese and sausage. Bake 25 to 35 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with sour cream and additional salsa, if desired.
If you do decide to try this tasty treat, be sure and let us know how you like it. You can leave us a comment on our Facebook wall, Tweet us, Give us a +1, or just come on in and see us at any of our 5 RV Country locations!
Until then - Happy eating and happy RVing!

A
s more and more families hit the road this summer for "back to nature" excursions, you may see more and more of the Somerset Tent Trailers. That could be because of their reliable 5 year Sunbrella canvas that helps keep you and your belongings dry from the rain, and bug free! Of course it may also be for many of the other crazy fun features it offers such as the attached outisde BBQ grill that stores right on the outside of the trailer to help you save on storage space on the inside, or perhaps it’s the shower and toilet system that’s found in this trailer, and not found in many others.
The Somerset also boasts a 12 volt that can run your A/C and a CD player, rather than the typical 110 it normally takes to run. Another fun feature is the sink. No flipping the sink down in this tent trailer... Just lift up, and over. Confused by that last sentence? Just watch this video walk-through as our sales manager, Tony Russo takes you on a tour of the Somerset Tent Trailer. When you're done, be sure to come over to RV Country and take the tour in person!
